Creative Start
We are happy to announce the second year of Preschool in the Park, an arts-education program funded in-part by the Washington State Arts Commission’s @artswa Creative Start initiative. We will be working with teaching artists from different disciplines to teach a series of classes for kids aged 3-6 yrs. We are still accepting applications from artists - please see the link in our bio for info on how to apply. The curriculum goals include: creating a connection between children and their place in the community, learning about the diversity of the neighborhood and their classmates, and providing opportunities for no-cost arts and creative play.
Series 1: We welcome back Anna Banana Freeze (Fides Mabanta). ABF is a community-taught, Filipino immigrant dance and teaching-artist living on Duwamish land. They are a member of the Massive Monkees crew and the creator of Mini BREAKS @minibreaksdance, a break dancing class for 1-7 year olds. ABF loves sharing the movements and ideas they learned from hip-hop and breaking, passing along to others the connection, empowerment and community they themselves found as a young person. They strongly believe in building community, especially in the power and positivity of the hip-hop community. As a Freeway Park teaching artist, ABF will bring our community together as they explore age-appropriate ways of sharing hip-hop and breaking to young children. “Toddler/preschool children are hungry to move, explore and create – it is in their very nature to do so, it is how they process the world around them.”
Join us for one or all of our upcoming dance classes and stay tuned for more art classes coming to Freeway Park this fall and winter!
